I understand why a lot of people want to disassociate themselves with some parts of current feminism or at least the internet culture that surrounds feminism. That’s not to say that a lot of “non-feminists” aren’t ignorant to what feminism has afforded them. At least on the internet, I have seen a lot of people abuse the ideology, wrongly labeling people who are male as “misogynistic” if they are unable to debate an argument, which is not at all what feminism is about. Also, again, probably in the realm of the internet, there are a lot of people who identify as feminist who will not hear out different flavors of feminism if they do not coincide with popular opinion, often followed by name calling. Debating because of disagreement is fine, but shunning isn’t.
Feminism was founded by strong, amazing women who fought tooth and nail for gender equality. These were amazing people. However, I feel that a there are groups of both modern feminists and non feminists alike who are incredibly ignorant to what feminism is.
